Noble foundation receives state grant
2/3/2010
The Noble County Community Foundation (NCCF) is set to start a collaboration with several not-for-profit partners to create an EngAGEment Initiative Network (EIN).

This new local network will strive to better understand the issues facing the community's fast-growing aging population and the resources available to address those issues, according to Linda Speakman-Yerick, NCCF executive director.

Community leaders throughout Noble County will be asked to participate in this effort.

To start this new effort, the NCCF was chosen to receive one of nine statewide grants awarded by Indiana Grantmakers Alliance (IGA). Grant funds were made available through IGA's participation in the national EngAGEment Initiative, sponsored by Grantmakers in Aging.

The Indiana grants will help the community foundation convene local leaders to meet the challenges and opportunities presented by the aging population.

In forming this new network, organizers looked at the impact that the Baby Boomer generation, those aged 55-64, will have on their communities. "The coming impact cannot be denied and Indiana's philanthropic sector is just beginning to understand the full implications of this momentous demographic shift," it was noted in an NCCF press release announcing the grant.

The EIN grant will further the community foundation's work, which has been to enhance the quality of life in this area. The process of initiating discussions, listening to diverse opinions, engaging in problem solving and forming solutions with respect to issues like aging has been fundamental to the foundation's progress thus far, Speakman-Yerick said.

"We are honored to be chosen as one of the state's EngAGEment Initiative Network sites," she added. "We fully understand the need to convene community stakeholders to address aging issues and look forward to determining how our community can enhance its response to this particular issue."

The Indiana EngAGEment Initiative is designed to assist Indiana grantmakers, such as the NCCF, with the following goals:

.Increase grantmaker knowledge of aging/lifespan issues;

.Encourage discussions to create intergenerational solutions to lifespan issues;

.Develop resources to be infused into lifespan programs, projects and/or policies; and

.Share information and best practices on funding aging issues within the Indiana philanthropic community.

The Noble County Community Foundation is a nonprofit public charity established in 1991 to serve donors, award grants, and provide leadership to improve Noble County, forever. To obtain information, visit its Web site at noblecounty.org or contact NCCF at 894-3335
