New programs, curriculum changes, more stringent academic standards, Career Pathways and award-winning fine arts studies are among the educational pursuits at East Noble High School, and administrators and staff want to show off what's going on at the school.

The second East Noble High School Showcase will be Friday, Jan. 29, from 7:30-10 a.m. at the high school on Garden Street.

Open to the public, the showcase is designed for business owners, plant managers, human resources managers and others interested in building partnerships with the high school and its students.

"There are business people in the East Noble district who've never visited the school and don't know what we have to offer students," said showcase coordinator Mark Cockroft. "This is an opportunity for business people to take some time and learn first-hand about course offerings at East Noble.

Business leaders can get a better idea of the caliber of education students are getting as they prepare to enter the workforce, commented East Noble associate principal Vince Beasley, who is coordinating the showcase with Cockroft. Invitations have been sent to area industries and businesses. East Noble staff can also get feedback from visitors on what skills employers want to see in a worker.

The morning will consist of performances from the jazz band, thespians and show choir, and multiple curriculum presentations.

The East Noble Jazz Band and East Noble Thespians will present a pre-session program from 7:45-8:20 a.m. with juice and coffee for visitors available in the high school auditorium lounge starting at 7:30 a.m.

At 8:20 a.m. East Noble School Corporation superintendent Dr. H. Steve Sprunger and East Noble High School principal Brad Compton will give opening remarks followed by the first session from 8:35-9 a.m. East Noble teachers and students will present visitors with a choice of 10 presentations.

The second session with 10 more presentations will be from 9:10-9:35 a.m. followed by a 15-minute program by East Noble show choirs.

Presentations during the two sessions include the new BioMed program, foreign languages, ICE/PCI, website design, science extracurriculars, archery, Advanced Placement classes, life skills projects, CPS software, English classroom technology and Algebra I enrichment.

"Part of attracting businesses to the area and keeping businesses here is having a school corporation putting out productive workers," commented Cockroft in explaining the showcase. East Noble wants to make education relevant to students going on to college, vocational school or entering the workforce.

Business representatives interested in attending the event should contact Cockroft or Beasley at the high school at 347-2032 or email them at mcockroft@eastnoble.net This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
