The public is invited to participate in public planning workshops on Tuesday for the new city comprehensive plan.
Representatives from Ground Rules, Inc., the city's planning consultant, will conduct the two identical meetings at 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. in the East Noble High School cafeteria.
Workshop participants will help Ground Rules staff identify strengths, weaknesses and needs relating to future growth and development of Kendallville, according to Dave Lange, city director of planning and zoning. Goals and objectives will be established for Kendallville's planning and zoning jurisdiction.
The city's current comprehensive plan is 45 years old.
"The state of Indiana requires that each community that controls planning and zoning have a comprehensive plan to review," said Lange. "The plan commission made this commitment to update the plan to ensure compliance with Indiana regulations and to provide a better guideline for the growth of Kendallville."
Kendallville received a $50,000 Comprehensive Planning Grant from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs' Community Focus Fund Program for the project.
For those who would like to be involved, but are unable to attend the workshops, a short "Community Values" exercise is available to state opinions on a comprehensive set of issues ranging from farmland protection to the demolition of historic buildings. The surveys can be picked up and returned to at the office of planning and zoning in City Hall.
Surveys can also be obtained by sending an e-mail request to Amy Schweitzer at aschweitzer@groundrules.com This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . All surveys should be returned by July 31. Comments on issues in Kendallville or future goals can also be emailed to Schweitzer.
